Berry Wedding Cake

For my sister-in-law's wedding reception:
She doesn't like cake, so it was actually hat boxes that I trimmed, slathered in chocolate buttercream, and decorated.  The top is a rice crispy treat cone covered in fruit, with chocolate-dipped strawberries on top to substitute the first bites of cake.

A little different

This cake is not actually by me, but by my friend Danielle. I just thought I'd post it because we had a lot of fun. I just made the fondant and showed her how to knead, color and lay it on the cakes. I think she did a great job, especially for a first try.
It's kind of the blind leading the blind, since I'm just figuring it out from websites myself, but if you live near me and you want some help trying a cake out for your child's birthday, give me a call!

Joy School Graduation Cake

I made this cake for my son's Joy School (Co-op home preschool) graduation. The figures were made to look like the 4 children in the group.  Strawberry MM fondant over chocolate cake with chocolate filling. The figures are made of MM fondant.

Little Einsteins Cake

Here's the top before I brought down the base:
Rocket is made out of Fruity Pebble treats, covered in MM fondant. The cake is chocolate with caramel filling.
The base is 2 butter pecan layers with caramel between, and third coconut layer with hot fudge filling.  The picture in the middle is of my son, and the figures are printed out, which I normally wouldn't do, but I opted to spend the extra time with my son on his birthday :).

Sweetie Babe is born

What's in a name?

Well, "Sweetie Babe" is one of my most frequent nicknames for my kids and it seemed appropriate for a blog dedicated to the kids cakes I make.
A cute little 3-year-old girl recently told me that her baby sister is a "cupcake."    How true.
When I make a cake for a child's birthday or special event, I want it to measure up and bring a sweet smile to the face of the little cupcake it's pictured with!
